Two Nigerian strikers are making fresh moves in Europe, and fans are excited about it. Victor Boniface has sealed a loan switch to Bundesliga side Werder Bremen, while Cyriel Dessers has completed a permanent transfer to Greek giants Panathinaikos.
Both forwards are eager to make their mark in new surroundings as they prepare for exciting challenges this season, Footballrover reports.
Victor Boniface Joins Bremen to Lead the Attack
Bundesliga side Werder Bremen confirmed the loan signing of Boniface for the 2025/26 season.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that the club will cover part of the striker’s wages as part of the deal.
Speaking after completing the move, Boniface shared his excitement:
— “The discussions with those in charge convinced me to make the move to Werder Bremen. I want to contribute with my performances to helping us achieve our common goals this season. I’m looking forward to my new team and my time at Werder Bremen.”
Head coach Horst Steffen expressed confidence in the striker’s abilities:
— “Victor is physically incredibly strong, has a very good finish, and good pace. He shone as a goalscorer and assist provider in Bayer Leverkusen’s championship-winning season. I’m sure he can become a key player in our group this season.”
Echoing that belief, Bremen’s head of professional football, Peter Niemeyer, said:
— “We are pleased that we were able to complete the loan and secure Victor’s services. He has shown outstanding performances in the Bundesliga and proven his qualities. We are convinced that he can continue that with us.”
Cyriel Dessers Begins a New Chapter in Greece
On transfer deadline day, Dessers signed a three-year deal with Panathinaikos after leaving Scottish side Rangers.
The striker’s move was confirmed by Rangers in an official statement:
— “Rangers Football Club can today confirm the departure of Cyriel Dessers to Panathinaikos for an undisclosed fee. The striker, who joined Rangers in the summer of 2023, scored 52 goals in his time with the club, making over 100 appearances. He also won a League Cup, was SPFL Premiership top scorer and claimed the Sam English Bowl. Everyone at the club thanks Cyriel for his contribution during his time in Glasgow, and we wish him well for the future.”
Dessers will now shift focus to international duty with Nigeria as the Super Eagles prepare for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
He is expected in Uyo ahead of the match against Rwanda on September 6, followed by a clash with South Africa three days later in Bloemfontein.
The forward’s most recent outing for Nigeria came at the Unity Cup in May, where the Super Eagles lifted the trophy after beating Jamaica in a penalty shootout.
