Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface made a telling impact off the bench on Friday evening, providing a decisive assist as Werder Bremen battled from behind to beat VfL Wolfsburg 2–1 in a dramatic Bundesliga clash.
Introduced in the 65th minute for Keke Topp, Victor Boniface wasted no time stamping his mark, Footballrover reports.
Victor Boniface Shines as Bremen Fight Back
The Nigerian forward, who had last registered an assist in the 4–0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach on September 14, showed his class again when he set up Samuel Mbangula’s stunning stoppage-time winner.
The goal sealed a spirited comeback and handed Bremen their third straight home victory — their best run since April 2019.
The match began with Bremen on the front foot, as Amos Pieper and Marco Grüll both went close early on.
Yet it was Wolfsburg who drew first blood, capitalising on a defensive lapse midway through the second half.
Bremen responded with growing urgency, and their persistence finally paid off when Jens Stage powered home a header from Yukinari Sugawara’s cross in the 83rd minute.
Super Sub Turns the Game for Werder Bremen
With momentum swinging, Boniface became the difference-maker. His clever link-up play stretched Wolfsburg’s tiring defence before Mbangula fired past Kamil Grabara in stoppage time.
The winner deepened Wolfsburg’s ongoing slump — their seventh defeat in eight games across all competitions.
The victory keeps Werder Bremen climbing the Bundesliga table, while Boniface’s return to form provides a timely boost as he continues his push to regain full rhythm after a quiet spell.
