Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface registered his 14th goal of the season to help Bayer Leverkusen advance into the quarterfinals of the DFB-Pokal with a home win against Paderborn.
The BayArena witnessed the Nigerian international score the opening goal of the game for Leverkusen as they secured a 3-1 win over their visitors, footballrover reports
Before coming into this game, the 22-year-old already had 13 goals in all competitions for the Xabi Alonso side, with eight of them in the Bundesliga, four in Europa League, and one in the DFB-Pokal.
Barely 12 minutes into the clash against the Bundesliga 2 side SC Paderborn 07, Victor Boniface found the back of the net to hand his team a well-deserved lead.
16 minutes later, Exequiel Palacios registered his name on the scoresheet, doubling the lead for Leverkusen heading into the interval.
Both sides resumed the second period in high spirits and in the 83rd minute, Sebastian Klaas pulled one back for the visitors, giving them hope of a comeback.
However, their joy was shortlived when Patrik Schick scored for the home side four minutes later to seal the win for Leverkusen as they head into the next round of the competition.
It is two goals in two DFB-Pokal games for the Super Eagles star, who featured for just 75 minutes in this game, producing four shots with one on target.
The forward also has six assists to his name this season.
Victor Boniface and his teammates will now carry this huge momentum into their next fixture, a visit to MHP Arena on Sunday, where they will battle VfB Stuttgart.
