Super Eagles forward Umar Sadiq delivered an assured performance on Thursday night, finding the net to help Valencia claim a deserved 2–0 away victory over Burgos CF in their Copa del Rey Round of 16 clash.
The Nigerian striker scored Valencia’s second goal of the night as Los Ches controlled proceedings at the Estadio Municipal de El Plantío to book their place in the next round of the competition, Footballrover reports.
Umar Sadiq Nets First Goal Since Permanent Valencia Move
Sadiq doubled Valencia’s advantage five minutes into the second half after being set up by Largie Ramazani, calmly finishing to put the result beyond Burgos.
The goal marked his first strike in his second appearance since completing a permanent move to the LaLiga side.
Although he was one of the standout performers, the 28-year-old was withdrawn after 64 minutes and replaced by Hugo Duro as Valencia managed the closing stages of the match.
Earlier in the contest, defender Rubén Iranzo had opened the scoring with a beautiful header inside the first ten minutes, giving the visitors a slim lead heading into the break.
Valencia maintained their composure after halftime, with Umar Sadiq’s goal effectively sealing the win. He outmuscled his marker to slot the ball home.
Valencia Build Momentum in Copa del Rey Push
The Super Eagles forward recently committed his future to Valencia by signing a contract that runs until 2028, following an impressive loan spell during the second half of last season.
Sadiq scored six goals in 19 LaLiga matches, performances that convinced the club to finalise his transfer from Real Sociedad.
Valencia had initially been unable to make the move permanent, forcing Sadiq back to his parent club before negotiations were successfully reopened.
Now under Carlos Corberán, Los Ches are counting on the Nigerian striker to play a crucial role as they battle to climb away from the relegation zone.
Sadiq had previously featured for 25 minutes in his Valencia debut against Elche, a 1–1 draw at the Mestalla, and his latest display suggests he is settling quickly into his new chapter.
