Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare continued his impressive goal-scoring form, finding the net in KRC Genk’s 2-1 home loss to Union Saint-Gilloise at the Cegeka Arena on Saturday.
The match, full of drama and key moments, saw Promise David take center stage with a brace that powered the visitors to a vital playoff win, Footballrover reports.
The Nigerian-born striker struck first from the penalty spot just three minutes before the break, firing confidently past Mike Penders into the bottom left corner.
Promise David delivers deadly double blow
Early in the second half, Promise David once again made his mark. A moment of brilliance from Ousseynou Niang, who threaded a perfect pass, found the Canada international inside the box.
With calm precision, David buried his second goal of the day—his 20th across all competitions this season for Union Saint-Gilloise.
Genk struggled to respond until deep into stoppage time when a defensive blunder gifted Tolu Arokodare a late opportunity.
The 24-year-old forward capitalised with ease, slotting home his 19th league goal of the season to reduce the deficit, though it came too late to change the outcome.
Tolu Arokodare fights on, but Union’s David dominates
Despite the loss, Arokodare remains one of the league’s most consistent threats, keeping Genk firmly in the playoff race.
But on a day when the title holders Club Brugge crushed Gent 5-0 to top the standings with 42 points, Genk’s defeat leaves them in third place—two points behind both Brugge and Union.
Meanwhile, Promise David has made a loud statement, not just with his goals but with his calm dominance under pressure—proving to be a difference-maker in Union’s title hunt.
The Union Saint-Gilloise striker was eligible to play for Nigeria’s Super Eagles until last month, when he officially switched allegiance to Canada.
