Wolves striker Tolu Arokodare celebrating FA Cup goal

Super Eagles forward Tolu Arokodare has kicked off the new year in style, grabbing a goal and an assist to inspire Wolves to a huge home win over Shrewsbury Town in their FA Cup Round 3 clash on Saturday afternoon.

Super Eagles forward Tolu Arokodare in action for Wolves

The Nigerian international, who was left out of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025, came off the bench to deliver a remarkable performance that helped Wolves secure a 6-1 win at Molineux Stadium, Footballrover reports.

Tolu Arokodare Makes Immediate Impact

Tolu was introduced in the 74th minute, replacing Jørgen Strand Larsen, and barely 12 minutes on the pitch, he proved his worth.

The 25-year-old forward provided Wolves’ fifth goal and wrapped up the scoring, all within four minutes.

This was his fourth goal of the season since joining Wolves from Belgian Pro League side Genk, taking his tally to five goal contributions.

Jørgen Strand Larsen set the tone early, opening the scoring in the 9th minute with a slick finish from Hee-Chan Hwang’s assist.

It was a neat finish as Strand Larsen met a low Hwang cut-back to give Wolves a first-half lead.

Just two minutes later, Larsen turned provider, teeing up Jhon Arias to make it 2-0.

Arias timed his run well to get behind Shrewsbury’s backline, meet a through ball from Strand Larsen, and double Wolves’ lead at Molineux.

Shrewsbury pulled one back in the 26th minute through a John Marquis penalty, but Wolves quickly regained control.

Larsen completed his first-half brace in the 41st minute and added a fourth goal in the 58th, assisted by Arias.

First came an unfortunate error from Shrewsbury goalkeeper Elyh Harrison, whose misplaced pass was intercepted by Strand Larsen, allowing him to finish into an unguarded net.

Then, a well-executed build-up saw Hwang and Arias combine neatly in the final third, with Arias picking out Strand Larsen, who took a touch and finished across goal for his third.

Late strikes from Rodrigo Gomes in the 86th minute, set up by Tolu Arokodare, made it 5-1.

Rodrigo, back in the squad and on the scoresheet, was picked out in the middle of the visitors’ box and made no mistake from close range.

Wolves Dominate From Start to Finish

Arokodare himself, in stoppage time and assisted by David Møller Wolfe, wrapped up a dominant victory.

Wolfe was released down the left flank and delivered a perfect assist for Tolu, who fired home in front of goal.

Strand Larsen’s hat-trick and Wolves’ relentless attacking display made it an emphatic win to remember.

With the victory, Tolu Arokodare and his teammates remain unbeaten in their last four games, recording two wins and two draws.

With that momentum, Wolves will prepare to host Newcastle in the Premier League next Sunday.
