Why unstoppable Tolu Arokodare could be Nigeria’s next Golden Boot winner

Racing Genk’s Tolu Arokodare is proving himself as one of Nigeria’s top strikers in Europe, and his latest performance in Genk’s 2-0 win over RSC Anderlecht in the Jupiler Pro League shows exactly what the forward can offer.

The 24-year-old forward scored one goal and assisted another, helping Genk maintain their top spot in the league standings, Footballrover reports.

Arokodare’s tally now stands at 11 goals in the Belgian top flight, making him the leading Nigerian scorer across Europe’s top 15 leagues.

He has surpassed notable Super Eagles stars Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen, who have nine goals each.

Arokodare missed an early chance to put Genk ahead in the fifth minute when Anderlecht’s goalkeeper, Colin Coosemans, denied him.

However, he made up for it just before the half-hour mark, converting Ibrahima Bangoura’s precise pass into a clinical finish for his tenth league goal this season.

The Nigerian striker wasn’t done. He turned provider later in the game, setting up teammate Konstantinos Karetsas, who sealed the victory with a composed finish.

Arokodare nearly scored a second goal, but his powerful header narrowly missed the target.

The Golden Boot race intensifies

Arokodare now has just one goal fewer than league top-scorer Kasper Dolberg, intensifying the battle for the Golden Boot.

If successful, he could join the elite ranks of Nigerians who have claimed the accolade, including Tosin Dosunmu, Joseph Akpala, and Paul Onuachu.

What makes Arokodare stand out?

Genk coach Thorsten Fink couldn’t hide his admiration for Arokodare’s all-round qualities.

Speaking to Het Nieuwsblad via Voetbalnieuws, Fink said:

Tolu is a top striker. He is fast, strong in the air, left- and right-footed, and he scores. What more could you want as a coach? Moreover, he now also carries out his defensive duties, which he didn’t before.

With his form peaking at the right time, Arokodare is not just helping Genk’s title push but is also positioning himself as one of Nigeria’s next big stars on the European stage.

With the Golden Boot race heating up, all eyes are seriously on the Super Eagles hopeful to see if he can truly make history, with the national team call-up close to the door as well.
