Super Eagles forward Tolu Arokodare put in a decent display on Saturday, scoring for Wolves in their Premier League Round 25 clash against Chelsea, but his goal came too late to rescue his side from defeat.
Arokodare found the back of the net with Wolves already 3–0 down, and despite his effort, the hosts suffered a heavy 3–1 loss at the Molineux Stadium, Footballrover reports.
Tolu Arokodare Strikes Late but Chelsea Dominate
The 25-year-old’s strike was his second Premier League goal of the season, taking his total goal contributions to six—two league goals, one goal and one assist in the FA Cup, and two goals in the EFL Cup.
While the Nigerian star made headline, it was Cole Palmer, who stole the show to power Chelsea to a convincing 3-1 win with a devastating first-half hat-trick that settled the contest before the break.
Wolves entered the match low on confidence after recent defeats, and their fragile start was punished early when Matt Doherty conceded a needless penalty, calmly converted by Palmer.
The visitors were sharp and could have extended their lead sooner, but José Sá kept Wolves in touch with a couple of smart saves.
That resistance didn’t last. A second careless foul in the box handed Palmer another spot-kick, which he dispatched confidently to mark a personal milestone of 50 Chelsea goals.
Just minutes later, he completed his treble from open play, sweeping home a cutback to effectively end the game inside 45 minutes.
Cole Palmer Hat-Trick Keeps the Blues in Champions League Hunt
Wolves showed more spirit after the interval and finally gave their supporters something to cheer when Arokodare bundled home from close range following a corner.
While the hosts were more competitive in the second half, they never truly threatened a comeback, and Chelsea managed the game comfortably despite easing off.
The victory keeps Chelsea firmly in the hunt for Champions League qualification, sitting fifth and within touching distance of the top four.
Meanwhile, Tolu Arokodare and his teammates remain rooted near the bottom, with another defeat deepening an increasingly bleak campaign.
