French center back – Aïssatou Tounkara has officially signed with Manchester United on a two-year deal that runs through the summer of 2024.
Tounkara arrives Manchester United after spending the previous four seasons with Atlético Madrid in the Spanish Primera Iberdrola.
The defender played 83 times in the top level of Spanish soccer, scoring six goals.
In the 2018–19 season, Tounkara won the Primera Iberdrola title with Atlético before going on to take home the Supercopa Femenina with The Red and Whites.
Additionally, the defender has a ton of experience competing in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Tounkara played a key role in Les Bleues’ successful group stage performance and was a member of the French team that advanced to the Euro 2022 semifinals last month.
The French international defender became the Red Devels’ seventh new signing of a busy summer.

Having played for Atletico in the Champions League, Tounkara’s knowledge and experience of top level football was emphasized by United manager – Marc Skinner.
“Aïssatou Tounkara is a player we had been monitoring for a while and are delighted to now bring her to the football club. She will offer vital Champions League and European competition experience to our younger players, and a real maturity to our all-round defensive play. We now look forward to embedding Aïssatou into our squad during pre-season.” – Skinner said.
