For the first time in their history, the Teranga Lions of Senegal have won an African championship after defeating Egypt in a thrilling final of Afcon 2021.Senegal won the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations on penalties after defeating Egypt 4-2 in the final at the Olembe Stadium on Sunday.
Considering Senegal’sΒ supremacy, the game ended in a 0-0 draw after 120 minutes of football at the Olembe Stadium, necessitating spot-kicks to separate the teams.

In their third final performance, the Teranga Lions overcome their setback in Egypt in 2019 to win their first Afcon title.
Early in the game, the Teranga Lions made a drive for an early goal, which ended in a penalty after Mohamed Abdelmonem took down Saliou Ciss in the fourth minute.

The Egypt defender received the game’s first yellow card, and Sadio Mane stepped forth to take the penalty kick, but goalie Mohamed Abou Gabal stopped his strike.
After a goalless 90 minutes, Aliou Cisse’s men went on to dominate in extra time, with Dieng coming near with a header that was batted away by Abou Gabal for a corner-kick, resulting in penalties.

Senegal’s Koulibaly and Abdou Diallo converted the first two penalty shoot-out attempts, however Egypt missed their second try when Abdelmonem’s strike struck the upright.
Gabaski came to the rescue, saving Bouna Sarr’s attempt, while Mendy easily saved Mohanad Lasheen’s effort, and Mane came up to score the game-winning goal.
