Super Eagles forward – Taiwo Awoniyi, scored for Union Berlin in their 1-1 tie with VFB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

At the Stadion An der Alten Försterei, the 24-year-old scored his 11th goal of the season, but it wasn’t enough to help the Urs Fischer side secure all three points.Taiwo Awoniyi scores as Union Berlin falls to tough late draw vs Stuttgart

The hosts headed into the game hoping to bounce back after losing 1-0 to Wolfsburg away from home.

Stuttgart was also looking to keep their winning streak going after a hard fought 3-2 victory against Monchengladbach last weekend.

With less than four minutes remaining in the first half, the Super Eagles forward converted a penalty with a right-footed effort to the bottom right corner to put his team ahead.

Before a late strike from Sasa Kalajdzic ensured a point for the visitors. In stoppage time, the Austrian sealed the draw with a right-footed strike from the centre of the box to the high centre of the goal.

Union Berlin is now left hanging in seventh place with 38 points, just two points ahead of Koln, who still have a game in hand. They will be visiting league leaders Bayern Munich on Saturday.

Stuttgart, on the other hand, is still in danger of relegation, since the draw gives them with little or no chance of progressing beyond the last three, and they will face Augsburg next.
