Super Eagles star Taiwo Awoniyi enjoyed a perfect Sunday, finding the back of the net to help Nottingham Forest secure a commanding 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League.
Coming off the bench, the Nigerian forward scored the final goal of the encounter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to seal a well-deserved win for the visitors, Footballrover reports.
Taiwo Awoniyi delivers late dagger as Forest dominate Spurs
Awoniyi came into the game in the 71st minute to replace Igor Jesus and needed just 18 minutes on the pitch to wrap up the victory.
The 28-year-old Nigerian international bagged only his second goal of the campaign, with his first coming back on January 25 in a 2-0 win over Brentford.
Awoniyi has found starts hard to come by this season, featuring in 12 games but starting only once and tallying just 268 minutes of game time.
Meanwhile, his compatriot Ola Aina also delivered an impressive performance in Forest’s fantastic away triumph.
Tottenham Hotspur’s relegation fears deepened after the crushing home defeat to Forest, marking their fourth straight head-to-head loss.
Despite an early rallying cry, Spurs struggled to find a foothold as Forest settled more quickly.
Forest deepen Spurs crisis as Igor Tudor faces pressure
Tottenham did manage a few close chances, including a Richarlison header and a Forest defender accidentally heading the ball against his own post.
However, Forest struck a sucker punch just before halftime when Igor Jesus headed home from a corner.
The visitors doubled their lead in the second half when Morgan Gibbs-White swept home a cutback from Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Spurs offered little response, and a late third goal from Awoniyi sparked a mass exodus of booing fans.
While a West Ham loss kept Spurs out of the bottom three for now, this heavy defeat leaves manager Igor Tudor under massive pressure.
