Nigeria’s Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, has expressed pride in her team after falling short of expectations in their opening match of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games against Brazil.
The Super Falcons suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Brazil in a match they should have secured all three points right from the first whistle in Bordeaux, Footballrover reports.
Despite the loss, the Falcons put up a commendable fight against the two-time silver medalists at the Matmut Atlantique Stadium.
A lone goal from Gabby Nunes in the 37th minute proved to be the difference between the two sides.
The Nigerian women matched Brazil’s intensity throughout the game and created several opportunities to score but were unable to convert.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade was a standout performer for the Nigerian female team, showing off her skills and leadership qualities.
Speaking after the game, Ajibade attributed the loss to a bad day at the office and emphasised the team’s fighting spirit.
The Atletico Madrid star expressed pride in her team’s performance and vowed to keep working hard to make Nigeria proud.
“I give all the glory to God for being able to play and captain the team at the Olympics,” Ajibade said. “I am incredibly proud of the team, but it just was not our day. We will keep working to make the country proud. Thank you for your support.”

The defeat places Nigeria in a challenging position in Group C, but Ajibade’s words suggest the team remains resolute in their pursuit of glory at the tournament.
The Super Falcons will face Spain in their next match at the La Beaujoire Stadium on Sunday. The world champions kicked off their campaign with a 2-1 victory over Japan.
