The Nigerian senior female team recorded a 2-1 win against Women’s World Cup debutants Haiti in an international friendly match played at the Emir Sports Complex in Turkey.
Super Falcons goals came through Esther Okoronkwo and the team’s super star, Asisat Oshoala, in the 40th and 58th minutes of the match, respectively.
Esther Okoronkwo’s goal was scored through a free-kick at the periphery of the eighteen-yard box of the Haitian team, while Asisat Oshoala scored through a goalmouth melee that resulted from the Super Falcons’ right corner kick.
The Haitian defense was under intense siege from the Nigerian attackers in the first fifteen minutes of the match.
Super Falcons attacker Asisat Oshoala’s perfect tap inside the Haitian net in the 22nd minute of the first half was ruled offside by the match referee.
Another attempt at the Haitian goal by Oshoala off Michelle Alozie’s right cross in the 38th minute of the half went wide of the mark.
Rasheedat Ajibade’s efforts for a goal in the 26th and 45th minutes of the first half of the match did not yield any positive results.
The Haitians almost reduced the tally in the 56th, 65th, and 67th minutes, but Super Falcons defender Tosin Demehin and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie came to the rescue of the team.
In the 75th minute of the second half of the match, Haiti finally reduced the tally to 2-1 after a mix-up in the Super Falcons’ defense.
