In a display of sheer dominance, the Super Falcons of Nigeria kicked off their international friendly series with a commanding 2-0 victory over the formidable Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon.

Held at the newly renovated MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogun State, this thrilling encounter saw the Nigerian ladies prove once again why they remain Africa’s most successful women’s football team, conquering adversity and showing their enduring prowess, Footballrover reports.

Ajibade’s brilliance seals first half for Super Falcons

A phenomenal brace from captain Rasheedat Ajibade ultimately separated the two sides at the final whistle, completing Falcons 15th victory in 21 meetings.

This highly anticipated match, despite facing multiple shifts in kick-off date, time, and even venue, tested the endurance of the Nigerian squad, who emerged stronger and victorious.

The game began with a bright intensity, as the eleven-time African champions displayed sharp passing sequences, pushing forward relentlessly in search of an opener.

Cameroon, however, met their advances with spirited resistance, ensuring an end-to-end battle for the first 20 minutes.

Both sides launched a flurry of attacks, with the Falcons coming close during a goalmouth scramble and both Onumonu and Payne testing the Cameroonian goalkeeper.

Just six minutes later, the moment arrived. Captain Rasheedat Ajibade expertly won a penalty and coolly slotted it home, giving the Falcons a deserved lead.

The home team pressed for a second goal at the half-hour mark, but Ajibade was denied in a one-on-one by the resilient Cameroonian keeper, and Onumonu fired just wide moments later.

Two minutes before the interval, a superb pass from Rinsola Babajide found none other than Ajibade in the box.

Without hesitation, she bagged her second goal of the game, putting Nigeria comfortably ahead 2-0 against Cameroon heading into the half-time break.

This crucial second goal proved to be the winner as the Falcons of Nigeria took total control over the match.

Both sides entered the second period determined to find a goal.
