The Super Falcons’ head coach, Randy Waldrum, has expressed confidence ahead of Nigeria’s crucial encounter with Cameroon.
With the Paris 2024 Olympics spot at stake, Waldrum believes in his team’s readiness to overcome the Indomitable Lionesses, Footballrover reports.
The 67-year-old gaffer has been at the helm of the Super Falcons since 2020, building a strong bond with the team and yielding positive results on the pitch.
“I feel at home with the Super Falcons; it’s been a long journey with a lot of ups and downs,” he said.
As Nigeria prepares to face Cameroon in the penultimate Olympic qualifier clash, Waldrum assures fans of a victorious outing against the formidable opponents.
The former Houston Dash manager’s confidence stems from his belief in the players’ capabilities, emphasising that success relies on the team’s ability rather than just on managerial strategies.
“Coming off the World Cup, I think the players are in great spirits and we respect Cameroon. We know it’ll be a great match, both legs, but I think we’ll be ready,” he said.
Despite time constraints, Waldrum expresses faith in both his coaching staff and players to swiftly deliver commendable results.
Citing the team’s impressive performance at the World Cup as a catalyst for their current form, Waldrum stresses the importance of maintaining momentum.
He acknowledged his respect for Cameroon while affirming his team’s readiness for the upcoming challenge.
While reflecting on his journey with the Super Falcons, Waldrum expresses a sense of belonging and gratitude for the opportunity to lead the team.
He highlights the necessity for sustained efforts and time investment in achieving progress, drawing parallels with the recent success of the Super Eagles at AFCON 2023.
Looking ahead, Waldrum remains optimistic about the team’s trajectory and their satisfaction with their current position.
A victory over Cameroon would secure Nigeria’s spot at the Paris 2024 Olympics as they get set for an intense showdown in Douala on Friday.
