Nigerian defender Olisa Ndah clinched the MTN8 Cup with Orlando Pirates after a 3-1 penalty shootout victory against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.
The Super Eagles defender played a crucial role as a substitute when Orlando Pirates successfully defended their MTN8 Cup against rival Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend, Footballlover reports
Despite not seeing action for the Buccaneers in over seven months, the Super Eagles player quickly returned to help his team maintain their title at Moses Stadium.
In the 34th minute of the match, Ndah replaced an injured Nkosinathi Sibisi, impressing Pirates’ coach, Jose Riveiro, who later praised the Nigerian’s performance.
The 25-year-old defender had a challenging start to the season, having missed a significant portion of the last season due to a persistent knee issue. His return to the field in the 34th minute was a significant moment.
The exciting final ended in a goalless draw after 120 minutes, and during the penalty shootout, Orlando Pirates’ goalkeeper, Sipho Chaine, made three crucial saves to secure the victory in Durban.
Chaine’s heroics, with three consecutive penalty saves, paved the way for Karim Kimvuidi to score the winning kick, leading the Buccaneers to their second consecutive MTN8 title.
This marks the third piece of silverware in twelve months for Olisa Ndah and the Pirates, following their previous victories in the MTN8 last November and the Nedbank Cup in May.
Olisa Ndah now faces the challenge of regaining full fitness to secure a spot in the highly competitive Super Eagles team.
He also remains hopeful for more playing time under the guidance of Orlando Pirates’ coach, Jose Riveiro.
