After completing paperworks, Eredivisie club – Ajax have officially confirmed the signing of Super Eagles defender – Calvin Bassey from Scottish side – Rangers.
In a summer transfer, the Super Eagles defender leaves Glasgow Rangers for Ajax after the two clubs officially reached an agreement on a fee of €22 million plus a further €5 million in add-ons and 10% sell-on clause
The Nigerian international signed a five-year contract with the Dutch top tier team through 2027 after a thorough medical in Amsterdam.

With Bassey’s departure, Rangers earned a club-record sum for a player who originally cost them just £230,000 from Premier League side – Leicester City.
Brighton and clubs from all across Europe, including those from the Bundesliga and Serie A, were all showing interest in the highly rated defender before he accepted to move to Ajax.
Footballrover gathered that Alfred Schreuder, the head coach of Ajax, spoke with Bassey on the phone and was delighted. The Dutch team put together an official offer to replace Lisandro Martinez, who is expected to sign with Manchester United.
Lisandro Martnez joined the club in 2019, won 5 titles while playing 118 official games for Ajax, including 19 games in the Champions League. Only three years after being purchased from Defensa y Justicia for €7M.
Bassey, who made 50 appearances in all competition for Rangers last season, was also selected for the Europa League team of the year after they advanced to the final.
In addition to helping the team win the Scottish Cup in May, he also helped the team win the Scottish Premiership the previous year.
