In a move to maintain the integrity and professionalism of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi has issued a stern warning to club officials, urging them to refrain from approaching referees in their designated changing rooms.
This directive comes amidst reports of unauthorized individuals encroaching upon restricted areas during matches, Footballrover reports
“It is becoming increasingly worrisome that unauthorized persons are encroaching to restricted areas during matches of the ongoing season,” stated Owumi in a memo addressed to club leadership.
The memo emphatically reiterated that no club official is permitted to interact with match officials before, during, or after any fixture.
“Access to Match Officials is restricted and only appointed Match Commissioners and Referees are to be in the designated rooms at halftime,” the memo stressed.
Owumi appealed to club leaders to foster an environment conducive to professional match management, emphasizing the need to avoid the unsavoury incidents that have marred some recent matches.
He further warned that the league administration will not hesitate to impose sanctions as per the NPFL Framework and Rules in cases of proven unauthorized access to match officials.
In a separate development, the NPFL has urged clubs to refrain from requesting fixture rescheduling, highlighting that the release of the full season’s fixtures provides ample time for clubs to plan their schedules accordingly.
“The league would not entertain any requests for game rescheduling,” the memo firmly stated.
With these measures, the NPFL aims to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ensure fair play throughout the 2023/24 season.
