Enyimba’s head coach Stanley Eguma blamed his side’s wasteful finishing for their failure to secure a win in Sunday’s goalless draw against Rivers United in a thrilling Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) matchday seven clash in Aba.
Despite dominating possession and creating several clear opportunities, the nine-time NPFL champions were held at home by Finidi George’s disciplined team, Footballrover reports.
The stalemate saw the Big Elephant remain in second place on the league table, missing a chance to close the gap on leaders Nasarawa United.
Stanley Eguma frustrated by Enyimba’s missed chances
Speaking after the match, Eguma praised his players’ commitment but admitted their lack of clinical finishing cost them vital points.
“It was a good game, very interesting — the kind you expect at the top of the Premier League,” Eguma said. “My players gave their best, but we were wasteful in front of goal. In the first half, we created several clear chances that could have made the difference, but we just couldn’t take them.”
Eguma’s remarks reflect the tension that hung over the packed Aba Stadium as fans watched the People’s Elephant dominate but fail to find the net.
Their inability to convert chances has raised questions about their attacking sharpness in crucial fixtures.
Enyimba stay in title hunt despite stalemate
The result still keeps the People’s Elephant in the thick of the title race but adds pressure to rediscover their scoring touch ahead of their next outing against Kun Khalifat FC.
For Eguma, the focus now turns to sharpening his team’s attack to avoid similar frustrations in the coming derby fixtures.
