Enyimba head coach Stanley Eguma has laid down a clear marker ahead of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season: win the league or, at the very least, secure a continental ticket.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Eguma outlined his ambitions as the People’s Elephant intensify their pre-season preparations for a Matchday 1 clash against newly promoted Barau FC, Footballrover reports.
Stanley Eguma Sets Bold NPFL Target for the Elephants
With an impressive pedigree that includes two NPFL titles and a Federation Cup win with Rivers United (formerly Dolphins), Eguma understands the pressure and expectation that comes with managing a club as decorated as the Aba-based side.

— “Enyimba as a team have a target, and as a coach, an ambitious one at that, I equally have a target. And my target should be to win the league or pick a continental ticket, at worst,” he told the club website.
The experienced tactician is not just chasing past glories—he’s aiming to raise the bar.
— “Having achieved that in the past, I think I should be looking at something that will surpass my achievement. And that is what the club is looking at achieving as well. Remember, we’re nine-time champions of the NPFL and two-time African champions. I think anything short of that would not be a good achievement.”
Enyimba’s Identity Demands More – Eguma
The gaffer emphasised that the goals he’s set for himself align with the club’s identity and history as one of Nigeria’s most successful football clubs.
— “Before the management will set a target for me, I’ve already set one for myself, because I’m very ambitious, and I feel I have a lot to offer.”

The gaffer is clear: mediocrity is not in the Big Elephant’s DNA.
Last season, Eguma took over mid-season when the club sat 11th and still managed to steer them to a 6th-place finish.
Now, with a full campaign ahead, he’s looking to propel the NPFL giants back to the summit of Nigerian football.
He also brings valuable experience from the CAF Champions League, having been assistant to Okey Emordi during the People’s Elephant’s title defence in 2004—a role that only sharpens his continental ambitions today.
