Super Eagles goalkeeper Victor Sochima has officially bid farewell to Rivers United, announcing his departure on social media on Monday.
The 25-year-old departs the Port Harcourt club after a successful three-year stint, Footballrover reports.
His heartfelt message on social media signifies the end of his journey with the Pride of Rivers but hints at a new chapter in his career.
Following the conclusion of the season, Sochima’s contract expired, making him a free agent.
He opted against extending his contract, joining teammates Deputy Echeta and Enyinnaya Kazie on the list of departing Rivers United players this summer.
Sochima arrived at Rivers United in August 2021 after a season with Jigawa Golden Stars. Prior to that, he donned the colours of recently relegated Heartland FC.
In his farewell message, the goalkeeper highlighted the platform Rivers United provided for his growth.
“I needed wings to fly, and you provided,” he wrote.
He fondly recalled his achievements with the team, stating,
“It’s a splendid time in the blue and white colours, restoring the club to history with a trophy and flying the country’s flag on the continent.”
The Super Eagles shot stopper concluded by expressing his gratitude to the former NPFL champions.
“I will cherish every moment. Thank you, Rivers United.”
It is time to move on.

While Sochima’s next move remains shrouded in speculation, reports suggest significant interest in the talented goalkeeper.
Nigerian giants Enugu Rangers and Enyimba are rumoured to be in contact with the player’s camp, both potentially seeking reinforcements ahead of continental competitions.
Footballrover understands that foreign clubs might also be vying for his signature. With Sochima’s departure, Rivers United will need to find a suitable replacement.
Goalkeeper Amas Obasogie of Bendel Insurance is reportedly being considered to fill the void left by Sochima.
