Simy Nwankwo is on fire right now. The Nigerian forward was on the scoresheet once again as he led Al Orobah to a hard-earned away victory over Al Jubail when both sides clashed in the Saudi First Division League on Monday evening.
The long-forgotten Super Eagles striker is currently the highest-scoring Nigerian player across the globe, Footballrover reports.
Simy Nwankwo Continues His Goal-Scoring Blitz
He netted Al Orobah’s crucial second goal, helping the visitors snatch a breathless 3–2 win at the Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz Stadium.
It was an entertaining contest that saved all its madness for stoppage time — and then some.
The 33-year-old forward has now racked up an astonishing 18 goals in just 15 matches this season, and right now, there’s no sign of slowing him down.
The visitors struck first just 19 minutes into the game through Ayman Al Hujaili, who finished smartly to put Al-Orobah 1–0 up and give his side early control.
Al Jubail huffed and puffed but went into the break still trailing, but all that changed seven minutes into the second half.
Roberto Dias arrived with perfect timing to level things up, finishing off a well-worked move after a clever assist from Ousseynou Thioune. Game on at 1–1.
What followed was tension, nerves, and a whole lot of added time.
Deep into stoppage time, Al-Orobah were handed a lifeline when they won a penalty in the 97th minute.
Dramatic Stoppage-Time Thriller Sees Al-Orobah Triumph
Simy stepped up, kept his cool, and made it 2–1. Moments later, 11 minutes into additional time, Darwin González appeared to have sealed it, firing home to stretch the lead to 3–1.
Surely that was that. Surely.
Al Jubail had other ideas.
Just two minutes later, Fayçal Fajr pulled one back, setting hearts racing and watches nervously checked. But there was no time left for a miracle.
Al-Orobah held on to celebrate the dramatic away win.
The victory lifted Simy and his teammates into fourth place in the Saudi First Division standings with 43 points, as they now turn their focus to Saturday’s fixture against Al Adalah.
