Simeon Nwankwo is enjoying a brilliant run in the Italian Serie B as he scored a crucial goal against Cittadella to lead Salernitana to a well-deserved 2-0 away victory.
The 33-year-old Nigerian forward featured for 77 minutes before making way for Alberto Cerri but not before making his mark, Footballrover reports.
Simeon Nwankwo netted Salernitana’s second and decisive goal against Cittadella at the Stadio Pier Cesare Tombolato, sealing all three points for the visitors.
Nwankwo’s goal against Cittadella extends impressive form
His 78th-minute strike was his fifth in the Serie B campaign, despite not featuring in many of the games this season.
With two assists and a Coppa Italia goal already to his name, Nwankwo’s goal contribution has now climbed to eight across all competitions.
The opening goal had come earlier from Australian midfielder Ajdin Hrustic, who gave Salernitana the lead just 11 minutes into the match.
But it was Simeon’s goal against Cittadella that ultimately secured the win and left the home fans silenced.
Relegation confirmed for Cittadella as Nwankwo shines
While Nwankwo celebrated another match-winning moment, his compatriot Orji Okwonkwo endured a tough evening for Cittadella.
The forward started for the home team but was substituted in the 56th minute for Andrea Tessiore.
Unfortunately for Okwonkwo and his side, the defeat officially confirmed their relegation, with Salernitana securing a play-out spot in the process.
Simeon’s performance continues to prove vital for Salernitana’s survival hopes, and his ability to deliver when it matters most is becoming a hallmark of his Serie B season.
