The Super Eagles’ first training session for their crucial 2025 AFCON qualifier against Libya kicked off in Uyo, but Sevilla duo of Kelechi Iheanacho, Chidera Ejuke are yet to report to camp.
The session took place at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Tuesday as the team began final preparations for Friday’s match, Footballrover reports.
The Sevilla duo, along with Fenerbahçe defender Bright Osayi-Samuel, had not yet arrived in camp by the time the training commenced.
26-year-old defender Osayi-Samuel is expected to join Iheanacho and Ejuke later today, rounding out the squad ahead of the first leg.
Super Eagles’ roster grows, but key players are still absent
Twenty players trained as the Nigerian team prepares for the double header against Libya.
The Super Eagles’ camp opened on Monday in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, but only goalkeepers Amas Obasogie and Stanley Nwabali reported on the first day the camp officially opened.
And by Tuesday, 18 additional players had joined, raising the total number in camp to 20. However, with three players still missing, Nigeria’s squad is yet to be complete.

Interim coach Austin Eguavoen led the session with his backroom staff, emphasising tactical drills and team cohesion.
Among the stars present were Ballon d’Or nominees Ademola Lookman and Taiwo Awoniyi, along with other key figures like Victor Boniface, Wilfred Ndidi, and Alex Iwobi.
The team, 2023 AFCON runners-up, currently leads their qualification group with four points from two games.
With only three players yet to arrive, Eguavoen’s side will hope to maintain their momentum as they prepare for a vital home fixture on Friday before travelling to Benghazi for the second leg next Tuesday.
Aiming to secure maximum points, the Super Eagles are focused on staying at the top of their group as they continue their quest to qualify for the 2025 AFCON.
