Saviour Godwin was in solid form over the weekend, scoring the game-winning goal to inspire Casa Pia to a comfortable LigaPro victory against Vilafranquense.
In the Portuguese Second Division, the promotion-chasing side overcame Vilafranquense 2-1 on Sunday, with Godwin scoring in the second half.
The former Nigeria youth player’s 10th league goal of the season clinched the crucial victory for Casa Pia at the Pina Manique.
Portuguese defender – Cruz Lelo scored from the penalty spot five minutes before half time break to give the hosts the lead.
Only for the defender to squander their lead 53 minutes into the game through an own-goal, prompting the visitors to equalize.
Godwin scored five minutes later with a simple tap-in to put his team ahead again, and it proved to be the game-winning goal after the final whistle.
With this goal, the Nigerian forward has 10 goals and three assists in twenty-four league appearances this season.
When Casa Pia travels to Leixdes on Sunday, the 25-year-old Nigerian will be seeking to maintain his scoring prowess.
After 33 games, the Filipe Martins’ team has 57 points, just two points behind the league leaders, while Vilafranquense are in 11th spot with 41 points.
