Nigerian forward Samuel Akere has continued with his fine form in the Bulgarian top flight, the Parva Liga, after grabbing a goal and assist to inspire Botev Plovdiv to a thrilling home win as they take down Victor Ochayi’s team, Septemvri Sofia, on Saturday.
Botev Plovdiv fans finally had something to cheer about, but it was the Nigerian star who truly stole the spotlight, leading the team to glory, Footballrover reports.
A goal, an assist, and a commanding performance left the team buzzing—but that wasn’t even the full story of how Samuel Akere helped power Botev Plovdiv to their first win of 2025.
Samuel Akere leads the charge with a goal and assist
In front of a spirited home crowd at the Hristo Botev Stadium, Samuel Akere once again proved why he’s becoming one of the most exciting young players in the Bulgarian Parva Liga.
The 21-year-old winger set the tone by providing a sublime assist for Ivelin Popov’s opener in the 38th minute before heading home Botev’s second in the 60th, courtesy of a pinpoint cross from Andrey Yordanov.
It was a well-deserved moment of glory for Akere, who now has three goals and two assists in the league—eight goal contributions across all competitions.
His compatriot Ehije Ukaki also impressed with a solid 84-minute shift in midfield as Botev Plovdiv’s first win of 2025 ended a 12-game winless run in dominant fashion.

Substitutes John Botegi and Nikola Iliev added more flair late in the game.
The pair combined brilliantly just minutes after coming on, with Iliev setting up Botegi for Botev’s third and final goal in the 89th minute.
After six defeats and six draws in their last 12 games, Botev Plovdiv’s first victory of 2025 came with style and conviction.
The Yellow and Black are now unbeaten in their last four matches and sit sixth on the league table with 48 points.
Next up, they face PFC Lokomotiv Sofia 1929, hoping to build on the momentum—and with Samuel Akere in this kind of form, anything’s possible.
