Stanley Eguma, the coach of Rivers United, has emphasized the crucial role of their fans as the 12th Man, calling for their support in preparation for the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round reverse fixture against Etoile Filante.
In their recent match, Rivers United secured a goalless draw against Etoile Filante de Quagadougou in Yamoussoukro. They now aim to make their supporters proud in the upcoming rematch in a two weeks time.
Coach Eguma acknowledged the team’s solid performance in the game but lamented their inability to capitalize on scoring opportunities against the Burkinabé Premier League side.
He stressed that the former NPFL Champions would work on their finishing to increase their chances of advancing to the competition’s group stage.
Regarding the impact of Rivers United’s fans, Coach Eguma admitted their significance and expressed his hope for a victory to reward their relentless support.
“The fans are very very important, we need them. This is the time we need them most. Because, the players are going to play at their comfort zone. And the fans can always be there to bring them the comfort and encouragement, and support,” the Rivers United coach stated.
The coach further admitted the importance of not disappointing the fans, as their joy is tied to the team’s success.
“We hope to not let them down because they will also want to be happy while they are cheering the team. The team need to rise up to the occasion to ensure they get the better result. So that the fans will be happy,” Eguma emphasized.
The Pride of Rivers will intensify their training efforts to secure a victory in Port Harcourt and ensure a positive outcome in the upcoming fixture.
