Rivers United fans were left frustrated as their team failed to make their superiority count, only managing a 0-0 draw against Niger Tornadoes side they were expected to beat at the ABS.
The Pride of Rivers struggled to find back of the net during their Nigerian Premier Football League game at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium Kaduna on Sunday.
This time, Rivers United head coach Stanley Eguma selected a different starting team to take on the Niger Tornadoes at the multipurpose stadium in Kaduna city.
Eguma made five alterations to the lineup from their previous NPFL encounter that ended in 1-1 draw against Abia Warriors in Port Harcourt.
Abiodun Akande lost his starting spot at the goal post to Sochima Victor, while Temple Emekayi came in to replace Denis Ndasi at the back and Morice Chukwu made way for Farouk Mohammad.
Paul Acquah and Joseph Onoja were both replaced by Ekeocha Chukwudi and Ukeme Williams, respectively.
Both teams got off to a promising start, with visiting United nearly taking the lead after just 26 minutes of play through Albert Korvah, before being called for offside.
Seven minutes later, Rivers United challenged for a penalty after Albert Korvah was brought down in the penalty area, but the referee ordered play on, and the first half ended with neither team ahead.
The home team resumed the second half livelier and with more vigor, and they nearly pulled off a stunning attempt from 20 yards out, but United goalie Sochima Victor stretched out his entire body to block the shot.
Moments later, Albert Korvah failed to capitalize on a great opportunity to give the visitors the lead after combining well with Nyima Nwagua.
Both sides kept pushing for breakthrough but couldn’t find one as the final whistle saw them share the spoils.
The Wike Boys won the previous meeting between the teams 2-1 in front of their home fans, but the Port Harcourt outfit completely failed to demonstrate its superiority today.
