Rivers United on Wednesday afternoon snatched a narrow 1-0 victory over Rangers International during their Nigeria Premier Football league game at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.
The pivotal goal was scored by Nyima Nwagua, who displayed excellent skill to finish off Paul Acquah’s right-wing cross to give Rivers United their fifth victory in the abridged league this campaign.
Ebube Duru, who has always been reliable, participated by placing the ball to Paul Acquah’s feet.
His precise pass put Nyima Nwagua in a good spot in the middle, and he controlled himself before chipping over Rangers goalkeeper Emeka Nwabulu.
It was a well-deserved reward for the pressure the Stanley Eguma-trained team had put on the guests after the break.
The strike handed Nyima his third goal for Rivers United in all competitions of an outstanding season thus far.
A win keeps the Port Harcourt outfit in second place with 18 points on the abridged NPFL Group B standings, just one point behind Lobi Stars in the lead and three points clear of Sunshine Stars in third.
On Sunday, March 26, 2023, Rivers United will play host to Abia Warriors as the second half of the Nigeria Premier Football Club comes to the fore.
