Rivers United are working relentlessly and fully prepared to retain the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL title after completely dismantling New Creation FC in a friendly match on Friday.
The Port Harcourt team easily defeated the non-league side by scoring seven unreplied goals, a performance that only shows what their NPFL counterparts should expect from them this season.
At the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Naibe Akpesiri scored twice as the Stanley Eguma team defeated New Creation FC easily to advance its preparations for the return of the Nigeria Professional Football League.
Following Lawrence Edward’s goal off a rebound in the 13th minute, Bolaji Sakin converted an Azeez Emmanuel lay-off to increase United’s advantage.
The Pride of Rivers led by four goals at halftime thanks to a spectacular strike from Liberian international – Albert Korvah and goal from Francis.
Malachi Ohawume scored the first goal of the day with a deft finish, while Naibe Akpesiri scored twice in as many minutes after coming off the bench.
Malachi Ohawume also had his name on the score sheet with an intelligent finish while Naibe Akpesiri came off the bench to find back of the net twice for Rivers United.
The game met all the criteria of a productive training session against a motivated, spirited opponents, with Rivers United’s Albert Korvah possibly the standout performer.

Meanwhile, Footballrover understands that the top division of football in Nigeria shall henceforth be referred to as the Nigeria Premier Football League and no longer as the Nigeria Professional Football League.
