Port Harcourt City is buzzing with fresh faces and new feet right now as Rivers United FC have pulled off a transfer coup, signing two well-respected players – Taiwo and Pius to strengthen their squad ahead of the new NPFL season.
First up, tearing down the left flank for the Pride of Rivers is the mighty Abdulrafiu Taiwo, Footballrover reports.
This 22-year-old defender is a whirlwind on the pitch, having already racked up over 50 NPFL appearances with a knack for both stopping attacks and contributing to the offence with a goal and two assists under his belt.
Sunshine Stars might be feeling the heat after losing this rising star, but Rivers United fans are rubbing their hands together with glee!
Prior to joining Sunshine Stars on a free transfer on September 1, 2023, the defender kicked off his career with Crown FC and later switched to Bayelsa United as a free agent in 2022.
But wait, there’s more! Another star who is set to guide the goal like a lion protecting its den is the experienced goalkeeper, Ibrahim Pius.
This 29-year-old wall has patrolled the net for some of the biggest names in the NPFL, including Kano Pillars, Wikki Tourists, Abia Warriors, Plateau United, and most recently, Katsina United.
With over 110 NPFL appearances under his gloves, Pius brings a wealth of experience and a steely determination to keep clean sheets for the PH City team.
Abdulrafiu Taiwo has already donned the colours of the Garden City side on Sunday when Rivers United United battled Kwara United to a 1-1 draw in their Valuejet Cup preseason tournament.
Pius will be linking up with his new team later on as Rivers United set to challenge for the top spots next season.
Finidi George, the man at the helm, is gradually assembling a squad with title dreams in its sights.
Opposing attackers better beware, because with Taiwo shutting down the left and Pius commanding the area, the only thing getting past this Rivers United defence will be the roar of the crowd!
