Rivers United head coach, Stanley Eguma, has revealed why he’s excited for the resumption of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) as several games have officially resumed across the nation.
This excitement was obvious as he stressed the significance of the NPFL Resumption for the progress of his club in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Eguma’s optimism surfaced after a somewhat challenging CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round match against Etoile Filante at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.
The match saw Rivers United failing to convert their chances early in the game and appearing somewhat unprepared for the clash.

However, this setback only fueled their determination to make the most of the NPFL resumption.
“We are happy that the league is resuming. If you look at the quality of the game today, if you are not used to playing the type of game we played [against Etoile Filante], it will be difficult for the team,” Coach Eguma said.
Eguma’s positivity shines through as he believes that the NPFL will serve as the perfect platform to enhance his team’s skills and coordination.
“So with the league now resuming, I think it’s going to give us very good preparation for the group stage of the competition [the CAF Confederation’s Cup]. By the time we play in the competition, we will get better. I’m optimistic that in the group stage, we are going to do better than we’ve done today,” Eguma added.
The disappointing inability to convert numerous scoring opportunities in the CAF Confederation Cup is a challenge they aim to overcome, the coach stated.
The Pride of Rivers initially faced adversity as they missed two crucial penalties through Ebedebiri Endurance and Farouk Mohammed.
However, their resilience paid off with a late brace from Alex Oyowah, securing their place in the group stages of the CAF Cup.
