Rivers Angels pulled off a brilliant 2-1 comeback victory over Delta Queens in a highly anticipated South-South Derby on Wednesday.
The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) showdown at the Stephen Keshi Stadium saw the visitors fight back from an early setback to extend their unbeaten run, Footballrover reports.
Delta Queens strike first, but Rivers Angels respond
The Asaba Queens came out firing and broke the deadlock just 18 minutes into the clash, with Favour Dagogo putting the home side in front.
The early lead put the Rivers Ladies under pressure, but Coach Tosan Blankson’s side refused to back down.
With just four minutes left in the first half, the visitors found their equaliser through Patience Otubo, heading into the interval level.
The Garden City side, however, capitalised on their momentum immediately after the restart, with Mary Moses—back in the lineup after an injury—netting the decisive goal.
Rivers Angels extend dominance in the derby
The victory keeps the PH Angels unbeaten this season, with three wins and a draw from their opening four matches.
Their dominance over the Asaba-based team also continues, having now won four of their last ten meetings, with the Delta ladies securing just one victory in that span.
Coach Blankson, who made three key changes to his lineup, secured an important win in his home country, strengthening the Jewels of Rivers’ campaign in the NWFL.
The team will now shift focus to their next fixture as they aim to maintain their impressive form.
