Rivers Angels boss Blankson vows not to hurt Pacesetter Queens: “We’ll respect them and win”

Rivers Angels step into match week 3 of Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) carrying both calm confidence and sharp focus as they prepare to face Pacesetter Queens at the Lekan Salami Stadium.

The atmosphere around the camp is charged with purpose, shaped by a week of tactical preparation and an unmistakable desire to maintain early-season momentum, Footballrover reports.

Rivers Angels Set Tone for a Determined Performance

For head coach Tosan Bob Blankson, the message has been clear from the first whistle of training: respect the opponent, control the game, finish strong.

Speaking after their final session on Tuesday, he revealed just how ready his side is for this contest.

Rivers Angels coach Blankson speaks ahead of NWFL clash

We are very prepared. The match is going to be a very tough one. No team is a pushover. Irrespective that we know there are newcomers in the league, we should respect them, and we are going to respect them. We will take the match, see how it comes, then when our chances come, we will take them.

But our coming here is to win, and I know definitely with the preparation we’ve got here, we will win. We are not underestimating them. I know at the end of the day, we will win.”

Blankson’s tone balances caution with conviction — a recognition that the NWFL rarely offers easy games, even against debutants still adjusting to top-flight tempo.

To him, the mental sharpness of his players will matter as much as their physical readiness.

When asked again about the mindset in camp, Blankson doubled down on his belief in the squad’s spirit and preparation.

If I should tell you, the girls are well prepared and ready for the game. I may be telling lies. In that area, I believe you will interview one or two of the girls so that you hear from them because they are the actresses.”

Rivers Angels Look to Sharon Onwere for Attacking Spark

Among the “actresses” Blankson referred to, defender-turned-goal threat Sharon Onwere has emerged as one of the team’s brightest sparks.

Rivers Angels players train before Pacesetter Queens match

She scored in match week 2 against Naija Ratels and enters this fixture with both confidence and quiet expectation.

After wrapping up training, she supported her coach’s belief in their readiness.

We are well prepared. Our coach has taught us what to do, and it remains for us, the players, to execute it. We are ready for the match tomorrow.”

Even though Pacesetter Queens have lost their opening two games, Onwere refuses to take them lightly — a mindset reflecting the entire squad.

As far as they are in the Premier League, they are a good side. Same thing with us. So, we’ll play the game tomorrow, and we will see the outcome. We pray for victory.”

And on the question fans are already asking—whether she sees herself scoring again—her answer mixes ambition with humility.

Well, till tomorrow, we’ll know. I have it in mind, and I am so confident that by His grace, I will score tomorrow.”

Rivers Angels will walk into this game not just hoping for two straight wins, but expecting a performance that matches their preparation. All that remains is the 4 pm kickoff—and the execution.
