The thrilling encounter, which took place at the Samson Siasia Stadium on Saturday, saw Rita Peters score a crucial goal in the 84th minute to secure a point for the Jewels of Rivers, Footballrover reports.

Despite dominating the game, Rivers Angels were denied a penalty in the 90th minute, and Blessing Okpe’s subsequent free kick hit the bar.

However, Head Coach Whyte Ogbonda praised his team’s determination and credited his substitutions for changing the game’s tempo.

Although satisfied with the draw, Coach Ogbonda acknowledged his team’s lapses, including a lack of mobility and slow reactions.

“It wasn’t what we expected; our target was to get the three points at stake so that the subsequent matches would be easier for us. But with the draw today, it means we’re going to fight extra hard for us to be able to succeed,” he said.

The coach commended the Rivers State government for their motivation, particularly the two million naira bonus from Hon. Commissioner Barr. Chris Green, which he believes will spur the players to work harder.Rivers Angels Pocket N2m Bonus for Holding Bayelsa Queens to Draw

Rivers Angels will now prepare for their next match against Edo Queens, who kicked off their opening game with a 5-1 win over Confluence Queens.

The encounter will take place on Monday, May 20th, at 12 p.m.

Speaking ahead of the game, the coach claimed that they are not looking at their result; rather, what they are looking at is making sure they win tomorrow and grab all three points.

When we meet Edo Queens on Monday, we dislodge them and take off from there. Definitely, we need to win them,” he said.

The Rivers Angels coach stressed that he’s very positive about their next feature, saying that,Rivers Angels Pocket N2m Bonus for Holding Bayelsa Queens to Draw

The team and players are very well motivated; they have that winning mentality; that fighting spirit is in the team. So definitely, I don’t see any team stopping us from getting the Super Six trophy.”
