After narrowly missing the league title during the Super Six playoffs, the South-South derby saw Rivers Angels assert their dominance over their Benin counterparts, Footballrover reports.

Goals from Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, Blessing Okpe, and Olamide Adugbe secured a well-deserved win and bragging rights for Rivers Angels over their bitter rivals.

The PH Ladies took the lead just two minutes into the game at the Awka Stadium, with Chiamaka Okwuchukwu scoring from Blessing Okpe’s cross.

Twelve minutes later, Blessing Okpe turned from provider to goal scorer, doubling her side’s lead from a well-taken corner kick by Sandra John.

Olamide Adugbe handed her side a comfortable lead in the 18th minute, racing past three Edo Queens players to score the third goal.

The Jewels of Rivers almost made it 4-0 six minutes later, but goalkeeper Christy Obia made two crucial saves to deny them their fourth goal.

Trailing by three goals at halftime, the NWFL champions, Edo Queens, sought a second-half resurgence.

Their efforts were rewarded 11 minutes into the second period when the referee awarded a penalty kick after Florence Alexander was deemed to have fouled Esssen Emem in the box.

Abideen Sulyat calmly converted the spot kick, offering Edo Queens a glimmer of hope at 3-1.

However, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu had other plans. The Rivers Angels star scored a fantastic brace, effectively ending Edo Queens’ comeback dreams.

The final whistle blew, confirming a 4-1 victory for Rivers Angels.

With this victory, it’s clear that Coach Whyte Ogbonda and his ladies have learned from their Super Six mistakes, dominating Edo Queens with an impressive outing.

Having met four times this season, the Port Harcourt Ladies have dominated with three wins and one defeat.

With Super Six winners Edo Queens out of their way, the New Vision Queens will head into the next round of the President FA Cup with confidence.
