Rivers Angels boss Tosan Blankson and his ladies are set for a fiery clash this Saturday as they go head-to-head with South South rivals, Bayelsa Queens, in the much-anticipated Super Six opener in Ikenne.
Tagged the star match of Match Day 1, this showdown between two of Nigeria’s most formidable women’s teams promises intensity, drama, and everything in between, Footballrover reports.
For Rivers Angels, the stakes are sky-high, and their coach, Tosan Blankson, is counting on more than tactics—he’s calling on prayers.
Rivers Angels coach confident as Super Six opener heats up
The Jewel of Rivers secured second place in Group B during the regular NWFL season, behind Bayelsa Queens, and it’s time for another classic duel against the same team they’ve faced numerous times before.
But this one hits differently—it’s the gateway to their title dreams.
Speaking ahead of the Super Six opener, the Jewel of Rivers coach brushed aside any psychological edge their opponents might claim from previous encounters.
“There is nothing new. Playing Bayelsa Queens is not new. At least we have been playing them, and it’s part of the game,” he said. “The six teams that are here are all potential champions, so whoever we play in our first or last match is the same,” Blankson declared.
While acknowledging the toughness of the clash, the Rivers Angels coach remains unshaken.
“We would still play them the way we played in the regular season. Definitely, the game will be tough, but the better side will win,” he said.
Why Rivers Angels coach wants fans to believe
Beyond tactics and training sessions, Coach Blankson believes emotional backing from fans could tip the scales in their favour.
His message to the Rivers faithful is simple but stirring: “Pray for the team and expect victory. Be ready to receive the trophy from us in Port Harcourt.”
The message comes as Rivers Angels aim to kick off their Super Six campaign on a strong note.
A win on Saturday at 11am would ease down the pressure and put them in cruise control for the NWFL crown—something Blankson and his Garden City side have set their eyes on.
