Rivers Angels coach – Edwin Okon has attributed his team’s 1-2 loss to Bayelsa Queens at the Uniport Sporting Complex on Wednesday afternoon to bad officiating.
The Rivers Angels coach made this claim in a post-game interview with footballrover, and added that, while he typically doesn’t criticize officials, he was left with no other option in this particular case.
“We lost the game today to the Referees. I don’t usually blame the referees, but this particular one, no.”
When questioned about his decision to criticise the referees, Coach Edwin Okon highlighted that;
“Our first goal was disallowed. Bayelsa Queens second goal was clear offside and we lost 2-1. They are going with the three points. Well, we move on.”
The visiting Bayelsa Queen opened scoring early into the game through – Sabastian Florence, who found back of the net just 11 minutes into the clash.
Before Okah Adaobi pulled Rivers Angels back with a good header at the stroke of half time to level the scores.
Just 12 minutes to the final whistle, Etim Edidiong scores for the visitors to put them in front once again and her goal proved to be the winner.
Coach Edwin expressed his disappointment in the outcome of the game but praised his team for their effort, saying they outperformed their previous performance.
“They played very well. They did better than the previous games. They did well, just the the frustration from the referees.”
Despite the defeat and dropping five points in two games, the Rivers Angels coach is still very much certain for a spot in the Super six.
“That one is certain, we will qualify for the super six.”
The 52-year-old coach also addressed measures to get his team back to winning ways by saying;
“I’ve been saying it, you can’t quarrel with your tools. You just have to psych them up. That’s all.”
