Remo Stars coach Daniel Ogunmodede has revealed the team’s darkest moment in their narrow victory over AS FAR of Morocco in the CAF Champions League preliminary round first leg match.
Remo Stars had a strong start to their CAF Champions League journey, achieving an important win in the first leg of the preliminary round on their home turf, Footballrover reports.
On Sunday, the NPFL side surprised Moroccan powerhouse AS FAR with a 2-1 victory at the Remo Stars stadium.
The Sky Blue Stars narrowly escaped a potential upset in the first leg, leaving coach Dan Ijabal lamenting on how the opening ten minutes of the second half were the most terrifying period of the match for him and his boys.
The Ikenne boys started the match confidently and took the lead in the 19th minute when Junior Nduka scored from Sodiq Ismail’s pass.
AS FAR fought back to equalise early in the second half, but their hosts regained the lead through another header, this time from Sodiq Ismail himself.
Despite creating more scoring opportunities, Remo Stars couldn’t increase their lead, leaving the tie open for the return leg in Morocco.
However, they are in a good position to advance to the next round of the CAF Champions League.
After the match, coach Daniel Ogunmodede shared his thoughts on the game.
Daniel Ogunmodede said that they were very happy with the victory, especially since it was the team that had inflicted their first continental defeat.

He added that it was good to have returned the favour.
“Nevertheless, the first ten minutes of the second half were so scary for us; we slept off; we were waiting to come in the game, and they caught us unaware, and we conceded,” he said.
Coach Dan noted that they knew it was their worst moment in the game and that they understood the significance of conceding a goal at home in the Champions League.
“Overall, in the first half we had a very good game. In the first 30 minutes, we scored our goal, and we showed too much respect after scoring. The boys were too careful, selecting decisions to make with the fear of not conceding,” he said.
When asked about what to expect in the second leg in Morocco, the coach admitted that they needed to improve their attack and finishing going into the game.
