On Tuesday evening, Real Madrid wonderkid Arda Güler carved his name in Euro history by emulating the feats of legends Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The exciting Euro 2024 match saw Turkey’s Merih Demiral score two stunning goals to set up a quarter-final clash against the Netherlands after defeating Austria, Footballrover reports.
Both teams entered the match eager to establish themselves as the dark horses of the tournament, delivering a high-octane game that captivated fans.
The action started immediately, with Turkey taking the lead within the first minute.
Demiral capitalised on a defensive mix-up by Austria, firing a close-range shot into the net.

Austria quickly retaliated, nearly equalising within two minutes as Christoph Baumgartner narrowly missed converting a corner.
Despite continuous pressure and relentless rain, Austria struggled to penetrate Turkey’s defence effectively.
Just before the hour mark, Demiral doubled Turkey’s lead, heading into a brilliant corner delivered by Real Madrid’s 19-year-old prodigy, Arda Güler.
This goal marked a historic moment for Güler, as he became the third teenager to score and assist in the same European Championship edition, joining the elite ranks of Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo, who achieved this feat at Euro 2004.
Recall that on his European Championship debut, this wonderkid with an incredible left foot scored a spectacular goal against Georgia.
However, Austria managed to claw back a goal six minutes later. Michael Gregoritsch capitalised on a flick-on from a corner, executing a brilliant finish.
The game, however, was marred by unsavoury scenes as fans threw plastic cups onto the pitch, with one striking Marcel Sabitzer while he prepared to take a corner.

Austria’s attempts to mount a late comeback were thwarted by Turkey’s resilient defence and a spectacular save by goalkeeper Mert Gunok, ensuring their 2-1 victory.
This win sets up a thrilling quarter-final clash with the Netherlands, who recently triumphed over Romania 3-0.
The winner of the Turkey-Netherlands quarterfinal will face the winner of England’s match against Switzerland in the semi-finals.
