Atletico Madrid have officially confirmed the departure of Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade, bringing her five-year spell in Spain to an emotional close.

The news comes after weeks of speculation, with Ajibade’s contract at Atletico Madrid running out and the player opting not to renew, Footballrover reports.

Multiple sources suggest the Nigerian international could soon join an unnamed NWSL club in the United States.

In a heartfelt message, Atletico Madrid announced that Rasheedat Ajibade, Ainhoa Moraza, Marta Cardona, and Merle Barth will all say their goodbyes to fans this Sunday at the Centro Deportivo Wanda Alcalá de Henares, following their final league match against Levante Badalona.

Ajibade joined Atletico in 2020 from Norwegian club FK Haugesund.

Over five seasons, she made 138 appearances, scoring 41 goals and providing 15 assists—an impressive tally that sealed her place as one of the club’s most reliable stars.

Her first season was modest, featuring in 22 matches and scoring just two goals. In her second year, she improved to 10 goals in 25 matches.

She then maintained her form, notching another 10 goals and four assists in her third season.

Ajibade’s fourth year was arguably her peak, with 11 goals and eight assists in 35 appearances. In her final campaign, she continued to shine with eight goals and three assists in 24 matches.

With the Atletico Madrid exit now official, the 25-year-old forward is reportedly on her way to the United States.

Although her next destination remains undisclosed, insiders suggest she is poised to sign for a club in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), following in the footsteps of other Super Falcons stars— Gift Monday, Asisat Oshoala, Michelle Alozie, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, and Uchenna Kanu.
