Former NPFL star Rafiu Isahq was on target again for Primorje, but his heroics couldn’t prevent his side from suffering a crushing last-minute setback.
In an entertaining Slovenia Prva Liga showdown against NK Celje, Primorje seemed poised for victory—until late drama shattered their hopes, Footballrover reports.
Rafiu Isahq’s goal not enough as Primorje suffer heartbreak
Coming into the clash after a frustrating 1-1 draw with Koper, Primorje were eager to reclaim three points.
However, the match at Arena Petrol delivered more frustration in the form of a heartbreaking 2-2 draw.
Celje took the lead in the 27th minute through Mario Kvesic, who pounced on an opportunity to put the hosts ahead.
Primorje, determined to fight back, found their equalizer early in the second half, with Edvin Suljanovic making it 1-1 in the 55th minute.
The momentum swung in Primorje’s favor in the 70th minute when Rafiu Isahq fired them ahead, displaying his attacking prowess once again.
The former Rivers United forward now has two league goals to his name, proving his growing influence at the club.
However, just when it seemed his strike would secure a much-needed victory, disaster struck.
Primorje’s last-minute collapse extends winless streak
Isahq was substituted in the 85th minute, with Primorje holding onto their slender 2-1 lead.
But football can be cruel—deep into stoppage time, Celje’s Armandas Kucys struck a 93rd-minute equaliser, leaving Primorje stunned and winless once again.
The result extends Primorje’s winless run to seven matches, with four draws and three defeats.
They now sit seventh in the table with 27 points, trailing fifth-placed Celje by nine points.
Despite the late heartbreak, Rafiu Isahq continues to be a bright spark for Primorje.
But with their struggles mounting, they must find a way to turn promising performances into victories before their season slips further out of control.
