Nigerian forward Rafiu Durosinmi may have delivered his second consecutive brace for Viktoria Plzeň in the Europa League, but his head coach Miroslav Koubek isn’t entirely convinced.
Despite his match-winning contributions, the coach has pointed out areas where the Nigerian forward still needs serious improvement, Footballrover reports.
Rafiu Durosinmi’s strengths and flaws at Viktoria Plzeň
Durosinmi was instrumental in Plzeň’s 3-0 victory over Ferencváros, netting twice to secure their progress to the Europa League Round of 16.
However, Koubek believes the 22-year-old is far from reaching his full potential.
The coach highlighted that Rafiu Durosinmi lacks efficiency in front of goal while emphasising his need to improve his overall play, particularly in linking up with teammates and contributing outside the box.
“Rafiu is excellent in the penalty area. He has a goal instinct; he can find the right place and get to the ball. However, his lack in the middle game and combination component is still visible. He is far from his top level yet. But if he scores two goals in 60 minutes of play, we will definitely not complain,” he said.
Viktoria Plzeň’s tough road ahead in Europa League
With their place in the Round of 16 secured, Viktoria Plzeň now faces a difficult path in the competition.
When asked about his preferred opponent, Koubek acknowledged the challenge ahead.
“You can’t choose. Both teams are good. Athletic Club also has a lot of motivation to reach the final, which is being played at their stadium. That means more difficulty for us.”
As Plzeň prepares for the next stage, Rafiu Durosinmi’s development could be crucial in determining how far they go in the competition.
But first, his current form in front of the goal will be highly needed when the team gets to face Slavia Prague as they battle for the top spot in the Czech Republic Chance Liga.
