Step aside, guys—there’s a new sheriff in town who is lighting up the Nigeria Premier Football League, and he goes by Promise Awosanmi.

This attacking midfielder/winger has got the kind of flair, pace, and football IQ that keeps defenders wide awake at night, Footballrover reports.

Since making his debut with Sunshine Stars FC of Akure, Awosanmi has been nothing but promising, and his story is only just beginning.

Early Beginnings:

Starting his journey with Akure City FC, Awosanmi was a teenager with big dreams when he joined Sunshine Stars in 2021.

He made 12 appearances in his debut season, and though his second season threw a few hurdles his way with limited game time, Promise didn’t sulk. Rather, he came back stronger and faster.

Enter Coach Kennedy Boboye, who saw the untapped potential in the youngster.

Fast forward to the second half of the 2023/2024 season, and BAM! Promise was playing like a man possessed, finishing with 5 goals and 2 assists in just 15 games, saving Sunshine Stars from relegation.

This kid doesn’t just talk the talk—he delivers when it counts—he works the work.

Rising Star:

The accolades started pouring in, and rightly so.

Awosanmi bagged the prestigious Nigeria Football Update Young Player of the Season award, confirming his status as one of the NPFL’s brightest young stars.

And guess what? The youngster is just getting warmed up!

The 2024/2025 season kicked off in style, with Promise showing no signs of slowing down.

In Sunshine Stars’ 3-0 win over Bayelsa United, he scored one goal, set up another, and danced his way into the NPFL Team of the Week for matchday one.

Even when luck wasn’t on his side—like in the matchday two clash against Remo Stars, where a potential equaliser was ruled out for offside—Promise was still causing havoc for opposing defenders.

The Akure Gunners may have lost the game, but everyone knew who the real star was.

Now, with the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers just around the corner, Promise Awosanmi is a name that the CHAN Eagles selectors can’t ignore.
