However, despite their dominance, Michael Olise equalised just before halftime with a stunning strike for Palace.
As the game neared its conclusion, it seemed Palace would secure a well-deserved point until a late turn of events.
A challenge by Eberechi Eze inside the box led to a VAR-reviewed penalty, converted calmly by substitute Madueke.

Pochettino, acknowledging the team’s improved attacking display, attributed it to Madueke’s impact, transforming frustration into a compelling performance after limited playing time.
Speaking post-match, Pochettino praised Madueke’s approach, emphasising his resilience and commitment to proving his worth.
“He (Madueke) played free. He did what we needed in this moment. I liked it because he showed he was upset with me and disappointed with me because he didn’t play too much. He thought, ‘Now I’m going to show the coach he can trust in me,” Pochettino said.
He highlighted Chelsea’s ethos of prioritising performance over charity, emphasising the club’s focus on nurturing players to excel.
Pochettino stressed the necessity for players to confront themselves, recognising the continuous need for improvement.
He underscored the club’s competitive environment, emphasising the importance of winning, achieving success, and respecting the club’s heritage.
The coach emphasised the vital role of mentality alongside talent, emphasising that commitment and mindset are as crucial as skills for earning trust within the team.
