The 26-year-old forward scored twice in the rout, marking his second consecutive brace and taking his tally to five goals in his last five games, Footballrover reports.

The Port Harcourt-born star continues to dazzle, making a strong case to remain at the club beyond his loan spell from UAE Pro League side Al Wahda.

Back-to-back brilliance from Philip Otele

It took just 16 minutes for Otele to make his mark, confidently finishing off a pass from Metinho to open the scoring.

Basel’s attacking moves continued as Xherdan Shaqiri doubled the lead in the 28th minute, assisted by Bénie Traoré.

Just two minutes later, Shaqiri turned provider again, this time setting up Traoré for Basel’s third.

Basel remained relentless after the break. In the 56th minute, Philip Otele added his second of the evening—his fifth goal in as many appearances—courtesy of another assist from Shaqiri, who ended the game with one goal and three assists.

Otele was substituted for Anton Kade in the 58th minute, having already stamped his authority on the match. Shaqiri followed in the 76th, making way for Gabriel Sigua.

FC Basel hit peak form ahead of Swiss Cup final

FC Basel closed the curtain on the 2024/25 regular season with a five-match unbeaten streak, including wins against Winterthur, Grasshopper, Lugano, and FC Zürich.

With 61 points, they finished six points clear at the top of the Swiss Super League table, sending a strong message ahead of the Championship Group phase, which kicks off on May 4.

As Basel prepares for the Swiss Cup final against Lausanne, Philip Otele will be eyeing silverware and hoping to extend his stay at the club after an outstanding campaign that saw him rack up eight goals and two assists in 14 appearances.

With this kind of form, Otele is not just lighting up the Swiss Super League—he’s rewriting the script for Basel’s title ambitions.
