Pharoahs of Egypt defeated Ethiopia 1-0 in Cairo on Saturday evening to secure a place in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Cote D’Ivoire.
The victory against Ethiopia also ensured the Egyptian senior national football team topped Group D with 15 points after six rounds of matches.
Mostafa Fathy scored in the 37th minute of the first half of the match played at Air Defence Stadium, Cairo, to give the home side a slim victory against Ethiopia.

Guinea is second in the group with 9 points after 5 rounds of matches, while Ethiopia and Malawi have four points apiece, with the latter having one outstanding group match.
Meanwhile, yesterday at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, Ghana, the Black Stars of Ghana survived a first-half scare from their Group E, round 6 opponent, the Central African Republic, CAR, to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations.
In the last qualifying round 6, CAR shot into the lead in the 25th minute of the first half through Louis Mafouta, before Mohammed Kudus drew the home team level at 1-1 before the end of the first half.
Ernest Nuamah put smiles on the faces of thousands of Black Stars supporters at the Kumasi Stadium with the second goal and three vital group points in the 88th minute of the second half of the match.
Ghana finished the qualifiers as Group E leaders with 12 points.
The second Group E match between Angola and Madagascar ended goalless, with Angola picking up the second qualifying ticket after ending in second place with 9 points.
