Former Naija Ratels FC star Oyinlola Olamide can’t stop making history, as she recently clinched the coveted title of Player of the Tournament at the just concluded U19 SWIT Cup in Europe.
Despite her tender age of 18, Olamide’s remarkable journey has been nothing short of inspirational, Footballrover reports.
The former NWFL starlet embarked on a journey to La Liga Academy in September 2023, where her skills are gradually flourishing under top-notch training.
She captained her team with finesse and made huge contributions on the field, including vital goals and crucial assists, which propelled her team to the semi-finals of the prestigious European youth competition.
This isn’t Olamide’s first brush with international recognition.
Her talent first garnered attention during the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in 2022, where Nigeria clinched a historic bronze medal, thanks in part to Olamide’s stellar performances.
Despite her team’s loss and Valencia emerging as champions, Olamide’s individual brilliance still shines through, earning her the accolade of Player of the Tournament.
Reflecting on her achievement, Olamide expressed gratitude to her club, teammates, coaches, and organisers for their support and for providing a platform for young talents like herself to thrive.
“Honored and humbled to be named Player of the Tournament at SWIT Cup U19. Thanks to my amazing club, teammates, coaches, and staff for their unwavering support. Grateful to the organisers for providing a fantastic platform for young talents,” she wrote on her X page.
The U19 SWIT Cup, held in Sant Oleguer, witnessed participation from nearly 130 teams and 1,800 players, with talents converging from various corners of the globe, including Denmark and the United States.
This exclusive women’s football tournament has become a cornerstone event in Catalonia, showcasing the immense potential and talent at the grassroots level of women’s football.
