After picking up their first victory of the season in front of their home fans and against one of the most formidable teams in the NPFL – Enugu Ranger, Wikki Tourist star – Abdulraheem Shola has revealed how their coach inspired them to succeed.

At the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium on Sunday, the Bauchi Boys unexpectedly ended Rangers International F.C’s three-match winning streak courtesy of a goal from Abubakar Aliyu in stoppage time of the first half.

During their match on Match Day 6, Group B, NPFL 2022/2023 abridge season, the Giant Elephants made sure they did not share the victory with the visiting Flying Antelopes.

The Wikki Tourist midfielder, Shola who played a key role in the victory revealed in an exclusive interview with Footballrover that words of their coach – Abdullahi Adamu gave them hope that they could actually win and earn all three points to cheer on their home fans.

“He told us this game means a lot to our career. As a player that we should put our mind together and go for the three point. He also said we should not loose focus from the blast of the whistle to the end and lastly, he told us that todays winning will put smile in a lot of people faces and the whole of Bauchi State” – Shola said.

The attacking midfielder believed that the result might be Wikki Tourist’s turning point after they had squandered their first four games of the Nigerian Premier Football League this season and only managed to tie with newcomers – Doma United.

“Of course it could be a turning point. Our next game is against Abia warriors, we are going there with winning mentality and full force and I believe we are getting something over there.”

Shola couldn’t contain his excitement as he celebrated the victory as if he had just won the World Cup. When asked what the result means to him, the midfielder responded:

“Yes I celebrated so much because that was the first victory of the season. It has not been easy for the past few days, the pressure from the fans and the management that we are not getting results but with that winning I believe everything changes. I was happy because I saw a lot of smiling faces after the game.”

The 22-year-old went on to reveal what Wikki Tourist dressing room was like after the final whistle.

“We were are all happy, I saw the players’ faces there was joy all over their faces. We laughed, hugged and celebrated the winning.”

He added that;

“The victory means a lot, as you can see, we are the last on the log and if we didn’t win, we will continue struggling till the last stanza. But with this winning, I believe we have put smile on our supporters’ faces and also given them a chance to trust us, even the management aspect too.”

The Wikki Tourist star man – Shola further highlighted what their fans should expect moving forward.

“They should expect positive results from now on with the help of their prayers and God’s mercy.” – he said.
